I suspect that the ECU on my Vectra Z18XE is faulty. I am considering sending it away for testing/rebuild. Problem is I have heard that once an ECU becomes defective then it is never the same again.

Has anyone successfully used a rebuild service?

Even some dealers give you refurbished ones as replacements so they can't be that bad.

I used the "ecu doctor"about 6 weeks ago, cost £168 and guaranteed for 12 months. No problems and efficient service, turned it around in 4 days.
Dealer wanted £650 + vat + labour. Go for it.

and the good thing with the ecu doc is they refurb your own unit so any alarm immobiliser feature on it will still be there for your car.
Trouble with new ecu's or s/hand ones is you'll need to reprogram them most of the time.

Contacted ECU Doctor they said they can't repair my particular ECU. Sent it to http://ecutesting.com/index.html who say they can fix these. They tell me it is 'irrepairable' after keeping it for 3 days. Great.

Have been looking at a Vauxhall breaker http://www.autosparesnorthernireland.co.uk/index.html
that apparently resets ECUs with tech 2 equipment. Also sells kits of matching ECU+immobiliser+transponder chip.

Any views on this? Only alternative is go to Vauxhall dealer with a wheelbarrow full of money.
