been having starting problems with my peugeot 206 1.4 (1999)

it turns over fine but wont fire

AA pluged it into the computer and said there are no ecu error codes so it must be a faulty battery so i changed it and it started fine

next day same problem woulnt start, i turned it over untill the battery was flat.

Took the battery off recharged it, and it started again no problem.

next time wouldnt start again, so i disconnected the battery and reconnected it and it started straight away.... i now have to do this every time i get in the car....

any ideas???

thanks

turning the engine over until battery is flat will burn out your starter motor

shorten life off battery

if its turning over fine but wont start either plugs away or ht leads faulty or dampness

replace plugs . they last longer these days and will do no harm. If a car runs ok but problems starting then plugs more than likely away

buy damp start pull off leads and spray them one at a time

are your battery connections really tight? It wont make any difference re-connecting them UNLESS you have tapped the terminals damaging them inside the battery

check the earth strap as well, might be rotten

thanks for the info

plugs are recent

earth starp and battery connections are good

The only way to start the car is to disconnect and re-connect the battery...it's like it's resetting somthing

as soon as its reconnected it fires up fires turn of the key
:?:

could be a faulty voltage regulator?

take it to an independent dealer who speacilises in peugot and hook it up to the computer

the more i think about it I would go for coil or leads problem

It doesn't sound like a standard every day problem to me.

I'm wondering if the immobiliser isn't fully releasing thus holding off the ECU.

I,m thinking you're right

is it possible to reset the immobiliser

and is the immobiliser built into the ecu or somewhere seperate?

thanks

They vary, but it is a specialised area that many garages won't touch. You need someone who specialises as the on-board chip may need reprogramming. It's not a DIY job if that is the problem.

Use the fault to your advantage, fit a battery isolation switch, then you have a added security feature.

Finally sorted it

£600 later and a new BSI (body systems interface) or the 'Brain'

was it worth it?
