Bit of a punt, but someone might know. What is the definition of secondary, higher and further education.

E.g. GCSE's along with A' levels are secondary education.

But what about NVQ's at college? Secondary, further?

What did you need to know for?

Ah well... my divorce settlement says that maintenance and my somewhat meagre share of the equity in the old maritial home ends/is payable upon the children reaching the age of 18 and completing their secondary education (whichever is the later)

Ah right. I knew someone in a similar situation and their old house was to be sold when they went on to higher education.

Hmm, it's a bad thing as I highly suspect his mother of "forcing" him to continue his so called education in courses that are of no value in the world of work, just so she can keep her benefits and maintenance payments (and of course not having to pay out)

Headteacher hat on...

There is an expectation that all pupils will remain in education or enter training between 16 and 18 if they are not in employment. The latter is the only bit you have as an out. He can be doing underwater basket weaving in school or training, and she's covered. Sorry. Out of interest, what IS he going to be doing?

Well he's over 18, but doesn't have any qualifications (he has some learning difficulties) his course is public service studies or something like that.

Some of the kids I’ve had in the past have had learning difficulties and I had them up to 19 years old but they could in theory (depending on the severity) go up to 21.

without understanding the detail, I can't imagine any college course would be bad experience. My niece and nephew are disabled and they went down hill a bit after they left college at 21. Neither are capable of much in the way of work and have resigned their life to living in sheltered accommodation playing video games. They seem happy, but I can't help thinking there was some job somewhere they could do and enjoy.

Well the thing is he'll never have much of a career (Yes, I really hope he proves me wrong there) If by going to college he was furthering his prospects, then I'd be fine with it. What I do object to is him being used by his mother, with the sole intention of preserving her benefits. It's simply delaying the inevitable. His course make him no more employable and I feel he'd be better off trying to find employment.

But then he is easily led and very lazy.
