I will be installing a new wooden floor and wish to set 13amp floor sockets in place. I have seen standard type double sockets with spring loaded flaps at very reasonable prices. I have yet to see a mounting box that sits behind the socket! Is it necessary to have a mounting box similar to that on a wall mounted socket and if so perhaps someone can advise which supplier is best?

Very good idea. BUT have you thought about what happens when you mop the floor or someone spills a drink/knocks over a glass/bucket? they are all well and good in a commercial environment but not ideal in a domestic situation.

Yes, and you use an ordinary metal backing box.

These are usually installed in solid floors with a conduit/metalclad box and conduited cables.

It would be sensible to use a deeper standard box.

35 mm or 47 mm is even better.

Some floor sockets don't leave you with much space in the back.
This is because the faceplate is so thin that all the gubbins at the back stick out more.

I hope I'm not too technical here.
