Hi

I'm looking to install electrics into an out building that my wife is going to set up for a shop, unfortunatly I can't get put it through the main box in the house as the floors are solid, I've been advised to have a RCD placed in our conservatory or Laundry room as the amount of power needed is small, 3 double sockets, 6 pendant lights & 150w halogen PIR light, could anyone tell me if this is a sound option & what would be the best way to go about it.

What level of experience have you?

This is a commercial install with (I assume) members of the public visiting the premises. You should have a professional install done & certified. What about public liability/ buildings insurance?

Since it's a business you will have to follow regulations for commercial premises and also get the work done by a qualified electrician. What kind of 'shop' is this going to be?

Could you please explain in more detail what you were advised to do? If you can't run a feed from the consumer unit are you talking about using a plug in RCD adaptor to feed the out building? Or connecting a fused RCD spur from the socket circuit?

3 double sockets, 6 pendants and a 150W PIR is not exactly a small amount of power. I'm assuming you will require heating in the outbuilding which even on it's own will put you close to the limit of an RCD adaptor (13A).

The best option is to get a qualified electrician to do the work for you. I'm sorry but it is not a DIY job.
