Have just been told that my oven's element has blown due to unit being wired wrongly into wall...... didn't think it would work at all if that the case??????????????? But if it was wired wrong, then would it have blown element? Or am i being had???

It depends how it has been wired. For example if you wire an oven intot he ring main it will work but it will be a fire hazzard [if its a type that needs its own seperate supply] as the cable cannot cope with the current an electric oven will draw.

Ask the person how it has been wired wrong and what needs to be done to correct it then sparkies on here can advice if it is correct or not.

am just a poor (useless) woman with no clue. All the guy said is that the neutral and live were switched in the bit you wire the cooker to on wall.........

It is wrong to have them switched yes, I doubt that would cause the element to go though. How old is it?

i got it off a second hand dealer, but i would say it is nearly new, a year or so maybe........ it did work when first installed, even did a roast on it the other day, but then oven quit. Hob and Grill still work, even with wires supposedly wrong way round....... would they?

They would work yes, it isn't right though that they are wired back to front as someone wouldn't expect it, switches etc will also be in the neutral so turning it off leaves 240v connected to the elements albeit they are not on heat as there is a break in the circuit. Could pose a hazard when cleaning so wants sorting asap.

Re the element, it is probably one of those things - sometimes appliances don't like being moved around.
Does it have a clock? Sometimes if the clock isn't set to manual it can stop the oven from operating.

Might be an oven element costs so little that arguing over it isn't worth the hastle!
What model number is it?
Worth checking the clock first imo.

no clock, has been rewired correctly, but the dealer's spark (son in law!?!?!?) says that the wrong wiring caused element blow...... i.e my fault coz it wasn't a spark that installed it. Feel a bit of a fool to be honest. Not even convinced that it was wired wrong to start with.

Its a BEKO DC3511

Might be as I said they don't like being moved.
Do you know anyone who repairs items like this? Quick google shows that you can get a base oven element only costs £17 inc P&P, worth having someone who knows what they are doing to check the oven to see which element has gone first.

dont know anyone around here who could fix it even if i could get a new element. thanks for your help, will have to see what dealer says tomoz when i put all this to him. He has offered to go halves on another cooker with me, but i'm so skint i cant afford even that i dont think. Maybe if i offer to buy new elemnet for cooker he will give me another one! HAHA some hope!
