Hi guys,

im new to this forum and this is my 1st post .

Just have a quick question, i have a flat which i rent out and for insurance i need an electrician to come round and check the wiring and give me a certificate. What i want to know is what will the electrician do and is there anything i can do myself before a call an electrician to keep the cost down?

Cheers :p

They'll do what is known as PIR(periodic inspection report)
This will mean inspecting your installation, accessories(fittings, switches, socket outlets, etc...)
identifiy cables colours, sizes, breakers.... etc. etc.
Evaluating the electrical installation’s safety, and/or deterioration. Such as damage, wear, tear, corrosion, excessive electrical loading, ageing and environmental influences, or items of none compliance.
In general a good look at your installation.
Then they will do a variety of test some dead and some live.
Then make a report out.
Not a lot you can do other than offer a friendly brew and few biscuits.
