Is this a UK installation or a USA, as different regulation may need to be complied to.
If USA post on the forum headed electrics outside of UK.
If UK the connection can be made using 1.00mm cable, if the cable goes directly into fitting, with no connection elsewhere on the outside wall you should be okay, a separate functional switch arrangement would be advised.
Also RCD protection, if not already supplied to the lighting circuit.
