Embedding shower tray.

I'm fitting a shower tray the floor is chipboard and is getting over boarded with 6mm cement board. Would you fit the tray on to the chipboard or over board the whole floor first and and lay the tray on the cement board . Thanks

I never ever lay a tray onto chipboard, it's the worst material ever to use in a bathroom, whoever approved that to be used in wet areas within a property must have been smoking some quality $hit. In fact anytime I fit a shower tray I remove all the chipboard within the wet space and replace it with OSB3, Ply or cementitious board if the budget runs to it and even then it's tanked. Much safer over the long term.

Last en-suite I did, laid shower tray and tiled directly to new chipboard floor , had no issues .

Would you fit the tray on to the chipboard

If in good condition, yes. Fit the tray then board to it.

Most recent shower issue I came across was where the shower was leaking past part of the enclosure, that was sealed but not watertight and the P5 chipboard floor under the tray was getting wet, unbeknownst to the client.

The first thing they knew about it was when one of the legs of the riser kit broke though the board and the tray dropped, gave the client a wakeup call they weren't expecting that morning.

Seen it too many times now, in kitchens too, to trust it in a space that has any potential to get wet.
