hey guys i live in a flat above shops there is two flats and i want to put an emergency light one the stair way there is a light in there i was thinking of running a 1.5mm 2 core and earth from the light to the emergency light does this sound right? also does it have to have a emergency key switch?

Yes it will need a test switch.

Why don't you replace the existing light fitting with an emergency fitting? Could work out easier.

Nick.

You'll need a permanant live from the same circuit that feeds the light in the stairwell currently, so check if the existing fitting loops in at the fitting, if at the switch, you could have some chasing out to do.

Alternatively, if the light is on 24/7 replace the light switch with a test key switch and feed the emergency light from the switched live also.
