Emergency Light Wiring Recommendations

FGS.

Buy a cheap non-maintained bulkhead, and wire the switch "backwards".

Learn to turn the b****y thing "off" when closing the cupboard door.

When the battery deteriorates to the extent that the light won't stay on for long enough, buy a new one.

A maintained fitting would be on ALL the time - that would be naff, and a waste of money

No it wouldn't...only if you wire it that way.

Get a maintained 8W bulkhead, run a new length of 3C&E to the bulkhead (to replace existing light) and job done. Works as normal light and an emergency fitting. (Or you could use flex if you don't want to use T&E, or SY with some really expensive glands).

I'd say what RFLighting said in the second post, emergency light on the same circuit as the local light - keep it simple!
You don't need to over complicate things!!
