hi folks,

Came up with the bright idea of fitting a non-maintened emergency light beside my fuse board. I read the instructions and it said for non-maintened function just connect a permanent live, neutral and earth which I did. When I switched the power back on after wiring the lamp came on ?? What's going on. Any ideas. Thanks

Shane

What part of Ireland are you in?

Some models, particularly recent LED, come as a maintained AND non-maintained. You remove the link from L to SL (or similar markings) to make in non-maintained. Leaving the link in would leave it on 24/7. Placing a switch inline with the link, or wiring a separate second L feed, would allow you to switch the light on/off while retaining non-maintained EM.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Off hand it's a knightbridge LED. I will look for a link got it on radionics,

Risteard, I'm in Dundalk Louth.

There is a fish wire (think that's the name) connecting L and LS. I removed this and installed a switch

Fair enough. The reason I ask is because given that you are in the 26-Counties I am sure that you are aware that it is unlawful to carry out Restricted Electrical Works (including any work involving the distribution board) without being a Registered Electrical Contractor (REC), i.e. a member of RECI?

Yes I am aware, thanks to a very good electricians Union and back handers
