:?: hello
I need to change the emersion heating rod, which goes into the copper cylinder. Problem is, the isolating gate valve, located on the 22mm supply pipe. Coming from the supply tank in the loft, to the copper cylinder, is jammed open.
Therefore, I can't isolate the copper hot water cylinder, from the supply tank to allow me to removed the heating unit.
I suppose I could tie up the ball valve in the loft supply tank and empty the whole lot. I don't really want to do this, as the tank is quite difficult to get to I will though if it's the only way.
cheers nd thanks for the help.
Really is a superb site. ;)

Turn the water off at the main stopcock then drain off, and while you are at it renew that gatevalve ;)

You say emersion heating rod!

[The word 'rod' has confused me a little]

There is an immersion heater..... to replace this you will need to drain off!
Inside the immersion heater is a thermostat which is more like a rod! For this you wont need to drain off.
