Hi. I have a large wall which needs repair in the plaster. I was going to put a coat of watered down pva to stabilise the old bits of decorating that would more damage if removed. Is there any reason I shouldn't paint over it?

why? What can I do to stablise the wall then? Or am I just going to have to put the hours in?
