Tried allsorts for long-life PIR floodlighting, evan 42w Biaxs which are about as powerfull as you can go before you're looking at monstrous industrial fittings. All failed with no ability to give the instant high illumination people want.
just done a job where the 500w floods are on softstart dimming, should conserve the lamps quite a bit, but it's not exactly a simple fit.
Other than that, the 150w PIR flood on my garage has lasted 3 years, triggered at least several times a night. I put it down to the volt drop on the 10 or so meters of 0.75 flex to the plug top giving the lamp an easier time.
I think within 2 years the LED tech will be good enough to replace nearly everything.
