Having just purchased my first house last month I’m obviously thinking DIY hence the reason why I stumbled across this website yesterday. I have to say that it is one of the funniest and informative websites out there. I thoroughly enjoyed the “word filter” discussion along with DIY disasters where making adjustments to the house can lead to strained marriages.

On the DIY front, over the weekend I fitted a new spot light cluster in the front room. I followed all the usual guidelines, turning power off at the mains…etc..etc. Job done I stood back ready to flick the switch. When I flicked the switch the lights came on as did the upstairs electric shower, the microwave “pinged” and the street lights outside dimmed and flickered.

I’m thinking I possible used too much insulation tape. Any one help?

Thanks :)

Not much use being able to turn on the microwave from another room. See if you can wire it up so that the kettle switches on when you turn off the alarm clock, that would be much more useful.
