Entry/exit point sensor question

Hi I live in an upstairs flat with a ground floor 1/2 glass upvc door which opens onto a flight of stairs leading up to a 1/2 glass interior door which accesses to my hall, now I am thinking about getting a new alarm and unfortunately a few years back I pulled all the wiring from the existing alarm out, so no door contact.
So can I protect this front door with a pir at the top of the stairs pointing down to the front door and program this as a entry/exit point or is this bad practice ?

yes you can, but would need exit mode as timed.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, will see if I can hard wire a contact or will go the wireless route
