So you don't think that parents should pay for their children to be looked after? Sad comparison, school organises the trip virtually blackmails the pupils for the curriculum side of things. Starting peer pressure.
Then gives a price, not saying your paying for the staff too (Considering they are getting paid anyway).
No one says you have to have the alarm system.
You know your going to pay. You know the costs.

There was no pressure selling and no peer pressure took place.
As for paying - our salary is for contracted time per annum, split between 12 months. We were happy to give out time freely to look after the children, but who do you think should pick up the tab for the expenses (travel costs, entrance fees etc?). We paid for our own (non-inclusive) food and drinks over there, just like the pupils.
Are you suggesting that I should pay for giving up my own time to look after other people's children?

As I said the school organises this, so they pay for the staff. Your still being paid anyway.
The peer pressure is what is set off between the children, but you knew that and avoided it.
As it happens with certain "accidents" each year, I think trained ( And vetted) people should be the ones on tours especially if driving is involved.
After all trained and specialists in the countries visited would have more to "give" about the areas being used for education.
However I still fail to see how or why a "maths" class would need to go to France.
Tower Bridge has lots of machinery and calculating the weight of the bridge counterbalances and the hydraulic pressures would be just as entertaining and teach about our countries heritage.
or you could use the "Ironbridge" or the "Forth Bridge" all in nice scenery and easier to get to.

You fail to see many things really. 
We used a specialist firm which had a local knowledge tour guide and a professional driver who has been to Paris several hundred times over the years. They also produced an education pack based on their knowledge which we vetted.
We were there to safeguard the wellbeing of the children and to help them with their studies and any problems that arose. This was outside our contracted time and so we weren't being paid for it.
