Is that good? Another question Slug type person :D How do I tell on this twin entry connector thingie which pipe feeds the water and which does not. My plumber mumbled something about this and I'm curious. Also does it matter?

Regards

Maria.

if you look closely there are arrows on the body

the port with the white knob (wheelhead) is the flow in

Hi Kevplumb,
Thanks for that, mine don't have any arrows they are smooth chrome plated and have no markings at all, also the wheelhead, as you call it, is missing just a metal knob remains. Plus the return part has just a scew. I'll drop a photo at some point, really ugly things they are :(

Does it actually matter which way round the pipes go into a new radiator?

Again just my curiosity I'm enjoying learning about this.

I can't thank you all enough for your help.

Regards

Maria

i wouldnt think you could fit one of these to a new rad the pipe that goes inside the rad wonf fit in the newer rads

see if i can find a pic

this fits inside the valve and is inserted into the rad to stop the water just running to the return
ie without heating the rad

I know what you mean, a really revolting black pipe that was in the centre. I think I'm confused now, perhaps I did'nt explain well. The radiator is already off and the system ready to drained. I asked the plumber to connect a new radiator at the ends of the (without this valve). I presume that is OK? I just wondered which pipe should go to which half of the new radiator? I presume it matters but I'm not sure.

no dont really make any odds :D

Hi Kevplumb,
thanks for the information, I'm really quite enjoying all this. it's very interesting to know how my new house works and why it's so noisy :D

As promised one of the many ugly, ugly valves I have.....

My thanks once again, you are a star.

the left hand with the wheel head and the arrow is the flow, and must be the flow on a microbore system

not with twin entry valve it wont.

Imagine that little tube you so kindly posted a picture off, if the water is flowing the wrong way it has to go down the end of it. Whereas it acts as an injector when flowing the correct way.

And I don't fit the rubbish either, how the hell can you expect anything to work with 8-10mm pipe, will always be noisy.

The reason for the valve control closest to the radiator being the return is that this section of the double entry valve is fitted with a short, flexible tail that leads into the base of the radiator, where it "sucks" cold water back to the return pipe. If this was connected to the flow pipe, the hot water emerging from this tail would mix with the cold water at the base of the rad, which would be heading back towards the return connection.

Of course with separate radiator valves at each end of the new rad, it no longer matters which is flow and return, even if a TRV is fitted.
