As I said - a bodge. Clean-up the plasterwork, batten out as/if required, dabs of GripFill on back of skirting. Fix to wall with 16 gauge pinner and leave to set. No need for sprags (trip risk) and faster to boot......

only my brand new can of wickes foam was useless, would not produce any foam but when upright

Of course, if you have a foam gun, you waste none at all.....

You still waste whatever is in the tube, you have to clean out, after using the foam gun.

Not really. I have a cannister of foam pretty much permanently on the gun when on jobs. Finish one cannister, remove and immediately load the next one. I only occasionally clean out the gun, say after 8 to 10 cannisters (unless the end starts clogging), because that seems to be when it all goes wrong with guns. Leave a tiny bit in by mistake and I'm sure you know the rest.

BTW I don't go mad with the stuff using it for everything....... In case I gave that impression

No, it's just how it looks. The stuff does, after all, expand!
