Expanding foam in VW camper roof lining.

Hi,
I've asked the same question in CARS.

My niece has a VW camper van with a hot roof lining. I propose to insulate it using expanding foam, by injecting it into the 1 inch gap between lining and roof. It is 1/8 inch plywood, and has the rear end open.

I was thinking that if I drilled holes in the sealed end, and injected it there, it would expand the length of the van. Does anyone think this would work or will it block and blow the 'bl**dy' lining off?

No guarantee of full coverage. Can you get the lining off somehow and put insulation behind it?

I don’t reckon it’d expand anywhere near the full length of the van, and even if it did it’d make zero noticeable difference, due to the very small thermal mass of the van, I think you’d probably have to do something a lot more substantial to have any effect…

I was going to work my way along to the end drilling small holes.

It felt very hot to the touch, and it was the simplest idea I could possibly try.

It won't work. Best leave until you can sort it out properly.

Unless you're very careful 1/8 plywood will be displaced by the foam. To be safe I think you'd need to drill a whole series of holes and work alomg. It must make a difference but how much is anyone's guess.
