£150  I think I'll have to live with a dripping overflow for a while.

Point taken. I'm just looking at the possibilty of going solar now I need a new cylinder. Any pro's and con's to this idea?

For:
1. reduces your carbon footprint.
2. reduces your fuel bills.

Against:
1. quite expensive to buy and install.
2. more expensive to maintain.

Unknowns:
1. environmental cost of manufacturing the equipment.
2. payback period.

Solar will realistically give 50% of your annual hot water. Forget all the advertising bumph you will be lucky to save £100-150 per year. Figures quoted usually include added value to house price with solar installed and i'm a registered solar installer

You could be looking at between £3500 -£6000 depending on the make and set up of a solar installation
