i need some adivce, I have just purchased a house that only has 1 ring main socket in one of the rooms. the socket is located 300 mm above the solid concrete floor.

I know I shouldnt split the ring and use two junction boxes, but to use two new sockets (Assuming that I can remove the existing socket and replace with two new sockets - to allow me to commence a ring extension) would place the new sockets just above the skirting board.
Are there any other options?
please

Retain the socket and run two cables from there, out feed and return?

Blanking plate over the existing socket and out feed and return.

You are aware that disconnecting one side of the ring at the existing socket for onward feed and then connecting the return feed back in the existing socket keeps the ring?

Hi Chris, thanks does that mean that after the initial addition of the extra sockets there wil be four wire sets instead of the normal two in the existing socket? will the socket connectorstake 4 wires? or have i mis undeerstood

thanks

andy

Hi Chris -= sorry- are you saying secure the wires from the existing socket into a 6 way 30A junction box ( which releases the socket) then to add the out and in (as you suggest) from the other side of the junction box which maintaains the ring - and place this junuction box inside the housing and cover with a blanking plate?

You could replace the present back-box with a 'dual' (not double) and fit two single sockets which can be used to extend each leg.
