Extending pipe

I am installing an over the counter bathroom sink. I am using the old trap and wasre pipe. The distance of th pop up waste of the vessel to the trap is longer , how can I extend it. My pop up waste is metal, 11/4 inch

Might be easiest to cut the waste pipe off some distance away from the basin and replumb with new pipe. Compression fittings can adapt to the size of the existing pipe.
