extension costs shell only

if you know how to manage things and organise work and people its logical to conclude that you can reduce costs
So do you? Many think they can but do not.

All irrelevant to the OP anyway, he's got prices we have no idea what they are its the usual guessing game!

So reading between the lines, from what you've said, if you know how to manage things and organise work and people its logical to conclude that you can reduce costs, perhaps not to the extent a good pro would be able to (due to discounts) but otherwise it would be worth it.

Managing is part of it, but knowing about construction work is much more relevant.

No extension work ever goes to plan, problems happen, unforeseen things crop up. It's knowing how to deal with those that really matters and where money can be saved or lost

It's no good thinking "I'll get the bricklayer here Monday, the carpenter the following Tuesday, and the plasterer in two weeks time" and being under the impression that that is organising the trades

How do you go about organising the trades then? Do you mean because it rarely goes to plan that you need a really good relationship (which only develops over time) with all the individuals/trades because you have to say although you planned to get peter the plumber to arrive on friday and previously told him so, you might end up asking him to come the following week etc?

Also, why does it rarely go to plan? Once your "out of the ground" if you have materials on site and your people turn up to work what are the common reasons for falling behind?

If the weather holds the job up the following trades are thrown off their schedule and do other jobs which puts it all out. Plus you can't be sure everyone will turn up when they say they will anyway. If the job they are on is behind they are not always going to leave it and come to you.
