We want to extend our house (bungalow) to provide a new kitchen. The ideal location for many reasons has one issue. The ground rises and to keep within the regulations for DPC (150mm above ground level) I'm not sure what options are available, for example different floor level with steps between rooms?

Someone said we could dig away the land from around the house, not sure I want to go down that route and anyway where would all the water go?

Removing the soil would be the best bet.

You can have a staggered dpc with the external dpc being higher than the internal, though you would have to design a retaining wall including moisture resistant masonry etc.

You still have to excavate for the extension, so why can't you just excavate a further 600mm x 150mm deep to lower a bit of ground around it?

Then just angle the paving or put a drain in

If you lift the floor, then you are altering frame heights, soffits and ceilings etc and it ends up looking a right mess
