I have an outdoor extension lead which I use for power tools in the shed.
I've just got it out to use something and noticed it's got a split in the cable. It looks like it's got trapped in the shed door at some time. One bit is badly dented, and one bit has a hairline crack right through the outer casing.
I'll try to attach a photo in a minute.
Next door neighbour says it's nothing as the inside isn't damaged and to just duct tape and carry on.
My inner worry-monster says I need a new one in case moisture gets inside.
Who is right?

Technically you are - damage such as that would probably be a fail on a PAT test. How about cutting the cable back and refitting the end? Are you running through an RCD plug? This is always a good idea when working g outdoors

Yes. I could cut it back but then it won't reach into the shed. Looks like I'll have to replace it.

There’s no harm at all in having a separate RCD. Think of it as belt and braces.
