hi there

i am thinking of getting permission to build above my kitchen and make it two story
how can i tell if the footing need ot be re-done my house is victorian typical two up two down.
a few houses look like they have done the same thing but they look like they have been built from the ground up
this is my first time at looking at all of this and my head hurts wioth building regs and planning and all of the other bits.
what do i do first.
and how do i know if the whole part will need to be re-built.

It is unlikley that an existing foundation to this type of house will be acceptable for a 2nd floor extension.

Normally, either the existing foundations will be underpinned, or the ground floor demolished and rebuilt if more cost effective. There are other ways such as underpinning part of the existing and spanning with lintels or steel beams, but it depends on how knowledegable your designer is.

First you need to get your planning permission, and then your building control approval
