Hi,

We have a condensation problem that turns out to be due to the fact that the previous owner of our house simply bricked up an old door way with a single skin of brickwork which he then clad over with UPVc. It has been suggested that I could resolve the problem by insulating the porch walls, especially as there is no means of double skinning the walls without having to do a complete conversion including the footings.

I'm proposing to remove the exterior cladding, fit new deeper (3" as opposed to the 3/4") battening down the wall, staple a polythene vapor barrier to the battens with enough slack so that I can fill the gaps with rockwool or polystyrene blocks, and then fix some exterior ply over that, which would then be painted with some exterior rough cast paint.

Can anyone see any problems with this proposal, or offer some other suggestions ?

Cheers

Malcolm
