External gas pipe to to properties

Yeah.... But Cadent? FFS

C’mon Dan... it’s pure marketing brilliance! They were thinking ahead to a future when there is no dirty-nasty fossil fuel travelling through their pipes and in the meantime it helps shareholders believe they are not involved financially, or otherwise, in something that is not Green!

Is it possible to employ someone to dig the holes and install the pipework himself and have National Grid connect to the main supply and to the properties only to save on costs?

Digging the trench and filling in the trench 'can' be diy work but Not laying service pipes.

If your friend is in Yorkshire, northern gas networks do most of the new connections in that area.Their internet site has information on charges.(even if not in NGN area, their internet site has a lot of information)
Get a quotation from northern and consider quotations from other local Utility Infrastructure Providers, see faq's at NGN.

The gas meters are fitted by others after a gas supply contract has been arranged with one of the many gas billing companies.

Good luck :)
