Hello

So I am wanting to keep my iPhone 8 Plus for as long as I can, I got it when first came out, and want to keep using it for at least another 5 months hopefully until 2017 September new iPhones.

About 2 weeks ago, the Haptic Touch of my home button didn’t “press”, but it unlocked and opened my iPhone as normal, but about 5 minutes later, I press the home button, but nothing.

Touch ID works, unlock and opening works by resting my finger on the home button. I know apple are the only ones who can fix this, but it means buying a new screen etc and will cost £100’s to have the home button to work with touch ID

I know other repair people can replace the button, but I will loose the Touch ID function but will have a working home button.

I know these work on Bluetooth, and I have had an idea but no idea if it will work or not, but if I got one of those selfie picture taking buttons, could it be reprogrammed so it would act as the home button would be?

Hope this makes sense, I hope someone has a selfie button and is able to tell me of the buttons on them are programmable or if I need something else.

Thanks

I'm not a iPhone user but..Turn on the virtual home button?
Enable AssistiveTouch.
That not do it?..

Oh. There is always a reason to wait and not buy a new phone.
Just bite bullet.
New model coming out then buy the old one as will be cheaper as they try offload

Already using the assistive touch button.

Ideally I would like to wait until the law states or apple states right to repair is enacted.

Example if I went to person A who can fix my home button, as it stands I will loose the Touch ID, but would have a functional home button. If I went to apple, I would get a new theme button, but they can programme it to have Touch ID that is linked to my phone. Basically if person A had a working home button with Touch ID from a donor iPhone, it would work as a home button but no Touch ID.

New law is coming saying that person A can use the donor parts but they can now use the Touch ID home button onto a receiver phone and can programme the Touch ID just like apple.

I am sure the law is due in 2027, but not sure if this would include the next generation of iPhones.
