A quick question. I fitted an out side socket (spur off of ring main) last year (June 2004), although this should be exempt from P is it worth getting it checked and certified?

I was a qualified electrician about 20 years ago but moved into computers.

The whole ring main is supported by a 30mA RCB and I do check the sockets on a regular basis (about every 6 months) with a simple socket tester and a meter.

Also (OK I know I should read the regulations) are there any limitations in what I can plug into this socket?

I think you have answered your own question. If you honestly believe it is safe, there is no need to trouble anyone - inspecting DIY works is not something that will be cheap (figures from £60 to £250 depending on locality) and many areas the builkding control people still have not yet geared up for it properly. In your position, as there is no requirement to do otherwise, I'd keep my head down. Actually I'd probably consider doing the same if I had done it in 2005 too, but obviously I would be unwise to recommend that course to others.

Thanks, I must admit that was my thought but I didn't want to push my luck.

It's been in for nearly a year and hasn't burst into flames .... I know it is safe ... I have been bitten too many times in my youth to risk any thing. That was the reason for the question.
