Hi all, I’ve built and rendered a 4m x 500mm block wall and have also dressed an existing 5m x 650mm wall with wediboard. Both are now ready to be tiled.
They will be topped with coping stones.
Nothing is utterly plumb or level but I’m hoping that my DIY tilings skills (or lack of) can fix that with extra adhesive and extra care and attention.
Anyway, what should I do first? Tiling then coping stones or vice versa?
My thoughts are that if i put the coping stones on first and ensure they are level then i have a good line to tile up to with no mortar bed showing. Tiling first means i have to be extra careful when putting the copers on to avoid contact and chipping the tiles as well as the potential for having a clearly visible mortar bed showing. The copings will overhang each side of the wall by approx 25mm.
Also, the copers are 450mm square x 35mm thick and I’ll cut them to size accordingly, but what about mortar lines between each coper? How do you stop gravity taking effect on the overhangs? I’m using coloured silicone instead of grout on the tiles, could i use the same on the copers and just have the minimal of gaps?

All advice gratefully received.
