I need to sound proof an external vertical soil pipe about 2 metres long.

My intention was to build a 300mm x 300mm unistrut frame, stuff it with rockwool and then fix some type of cladding.

Does this sound ok? And can anyone reccomend a claddding material other than timber.

TIA

Whats the rest of the wall made of? How about a cement based board rendered over. Or expamet and render over ply.

Thanks Deluks,

Its a standard red brick wall, not keen on rendering was hoping there would be some kind of solid plastic cladding available.

You can get much denser glassfibre batts for sound insulation. eg Knauf rocksilk.
They are much better than typical loft insulation.

Rockwool batts do the same thing. Denser than rockwool roll. OP doesn't state which type he's using but rockwool 'anything' will be ok for a pipe.

Holmslaw, what about brick slips to match existing? Any upvc product wouldn't bring anything to the party soundproofing wise. (insulation for sound isolation is best used between fairly dense materials)
