With spring looming, I have been looking at one or two external jobs to do when weather and temperatures permit.
I have some windows to repair that will need putty repair.
Was wondering if anyone had tried the toupret white glazing putty. I am not using linseed oil putty because of curing time so was going to use car body filler, then I spotted the toupret stuff in their guide.
Any experience of this product?

Don't use car body filler for this type of work, the Toupret putty is excellent just make sure that you prime the areas prior to application. I take it the windows are wood and not metal, if the latter you will need to apply a metal casement putty.

I replaced a pane once after a break in, using putty. The next day they came back removed the putty and glass and pinched a few bits more. So some bright spark came up with the idea of car body filler which I had to then put the glass in with. It's possible but a bugger of a job.

Thanks! yes the windows are wooden that had been kept quite up together until recent years when a someone did a real bodge job of the repairs and an even worse paint job.
In practice, roughly how long do you have to wait before painting the toupret putty? all the info I can find is that you have to wait until it forms a skin.
EDIT: I just found out some info stating that it takes up to one week. Thats not too bad.

There is no defined period of time here, and this affect is often weather dependant, one example is if you were to apply your putty on a midsummers morning the heat of the midday sun can often draw the oils to the surface, and the setting of the sun can when things become cooler cause the putty to form a skin, it is also dependant on the thickness of the bead.

So it really is in all intense and purpose climate dependant, and you will need to offer a sense of patience prior to the application of any paint system.
