Hi need help! Having living room down stairs converted into bedroom with on-suit bathroom for my disabled wife. The bathroom will have no natural ventilation therefore will require a fan. The routing of the ducting is my main problem, as the bathroom has no walls which are external, the nearest external wall would be about 5 meters away. But in this new bathroom would be the old (obviously disused and bricked up) fireplace with the associated chimney above. Can I just cut a hole through the brick work into the chimney and let it vent up the chimney? Any help! Thanks.

You could get definate advice from your local building control officer on this but I have seen a ventilation fan run into a chimney but with a lining to the top and a weather proof cowl at the top. Also a condensation trap at the base with a tank that needed emptying from time to time.
