Hi

I was just wondering if anyone had had this error on their boiler? I've have found out that it means there is something wrong with the "Primary Heat Exchanger"

Does anyone know if this is expensive to get repaired?

Thanks

:D

Unless you are lucky and it is the cables to the overheat ntc gone, then it new HE time

It's only just over 2 years old so fingers crossed it won't come to that!!

Thanks

Doesn't matter if it's only 2 weeks old, this fault code is the HE last resort overhheat stat tripped out, usually HE has been damaged.

Had the boiler/system been drained and re-filled just before this happened?

this is the reply

Thank you for your recent enquiry.

As the manufacturers of your appliance we do have our own specialist engineers based nationwide. Our current fixed price call out fee is £210.00 inclusive of call out, labour, the majority of components (excluding the main heat exchanger and expansion vessel) and VAT.

However, if our engineer identifies that the problem you are currently experiencing is due to any problem with the design or manufacture of the boiler, charges will be refunded as necessary.

I have been advised by our technical department that the F76 fault code indicates an overheat problem which may be related to the plate to plate heat exchanger.

As usual Glow Worm numpties replying haven't a clue what Vaillant fault codes are

as regards to the F76, the thermal fuse has tripped, and you need a new heat exchanger. However, you might want to wonder why this has happened in the first place to prevent it happening again. Dry firing is a common cause

in Jan 2018 I also had the dreaded F76 fault code appear on our Vaillant ecoTEC 630 +. I was also able to restart /relight boiler on a few occasions which stayed on for progressively shorter periods of times over a couple of days. I called out local heating engineer who diagnosed failed thermal fuse on the top of the hear exchanger which is not a replaceable part (for safety reasons). He told me that the entire heat exchange needed to be replaced with an estimated cost of the HE replacement only at over £1k inc parts/labour. He then advised me that a new boiler was my best option (@ £1.6K -£1.8k inc fitting).

Anyway I decided to get a second opinion from Valliant directly. I told them the boiler was already broken and to my surprise they were happy to offer me their platinum breakdown cover @ £250 for 6 month cover which covered me for any repair required up to a total of £1500 during the 6 month period - Needless to say I almost bit their hand off and I signed up. The Vaillant engineer came out within 24 hours , replaced the heat exchanger , upgraded a number of pipes as a preventative measure , replaced the water pressure sensor , replaced the 10 liter expansion tank which wasn't holding the required 1 bar pressure , and exchanged the Wilo pump for a more reliable Grunfoss pump and recommissioned the system all in less than 2 hours . Had i purchased all these part individually it would have cost me more than £800 and the fitting/labour would be on top. So I have almost an entirely reconditioned boiler and all it cost me was £250. I am delighted with Vaillant beyond my wildest expectations. Their customer service was outstanding. Most local heating company are aware of this breakdown cover offered by Vaillant and many don't want you to know about it as they would much prefer that you deal with them so that they can charge you a small fortune for repair parts/labour.

I was also able to restart /relight boiler on a few occasions which stayed on for progressively shorter periods of times over a couple of days. I called out local heating company who claimed Vaillant 'accreditation' and who diagnosed (correctly) a failed thermal fuse which is not a replaceable part (for safety reasons). I was advised that the heat exchange needed to be replaced with an estimated cost of replacement at over £1k inc parts/labour. My (maybe cynical) view now is that I think that most local heating companies are aware of this Vaillant breakdown cover but they don't want you to know about it as they would much prefer that you deal directly with them so that they can charge you a small fortune for parts/labour repair. Had i not contacted Vaillant directly for a 2nd opinion , then I would have probably gone with the advice of the local heating company and replaced the boiler - so by contacting Vaillant I saved myself £1.5k.

Hi, I recently had a f76 code come up on my VAILLANT boiler. After letting it cool down and then resetting it, the code would disappear and the boiler would relight. I got a second hand thermal fuse of eBay for £19, now the boiler works perfectly and has done for over 1 week on Ch and dhw. Obviously a faulty thermal fuse not a heat exchange and saved myself £100's.
