"The pictures were taken by engineer and urban explorer Adam Slater, 29, from Birmingham, who had to tread carefully.

'The main challenge at the Hippodrome was one of safety,' he said. 'Some photos show a building in fair condition but many areas were far from it.

'After being closed for nearly 25 years, water ingress had taken its toll and many floors in the building were collapsing making full access to all areas a little tricky.'
"

I bet the place is also riddled with asbestos.

Amazing, old theatres and cinemas are always fun to look around, you wouldn't be allowed to build something as grand as that now, even if you could find someone with the skills to do so.

The Paignton Picture House was the last one I had a look about, rather run down now, but it is in line to be repaired and re-opened again. Lots of MI there, and the switch room had some notes about an old DC mains supply. Sadly the projectors had been fitted with modern short arc xenon lamps IIRC, and there was no sign of the old carbon arc fittings or control gear. :(

Yep, asbestos was the in thing back then. The cloth covers on the back of those stills projectors will be asbestos, as likely the lining of the projection room to stop the spread of fire.
