Some 10yrs ago our kitchen was revamped with new units and worktops etc. Also a new boiler was fitted in a corner in the kitchen.

The false corner wall 200d x 500w x 500h was made by the kitchen installer using off-cut of the kitchen unit coloured wall mdf board in 2 pieces creating an 'L' false wall. This hid the pipes to & fro the boiler passing through the worktop. A recent water leak from the boiler had soaked into the mdf wall board and swollen. This false wall also was removable for Gas fitter for access to boiler if needed.

As the coloured wall unit mdf board is no longer available. I am going to fit tiles matching the surrounding splash wall around kitchen.

As this false corner wall will be in 2 pcs same size 200d x 500w x 500h and removable, should I use plaster board or plyboard to fix the tiles. The tiled boards would be held using covered screws to small wall studs. This allowing removal if need for boiler access.

Ok with either, should the board surface be treated for the tile adhesive ?
Or just use a flexible adhesive

I'd seriously consider 12mm cement fibreboard. Good insulator, waterproof, takes tiles well - the main downside is the weight of a sheet

Agree cement board ideal , rigid enough to take tiles and will only require a single timber on the corner to construct.Though with similar situation I used an of-cut of wood worktop to make cover. If you don’t have an off cut often lots available on Facebook marketplace .
