If somebody is paying for your home, travel and giving you an allowance while you go about campaigning for a political party, they are giving money for political purposes.
People don't just give politicians loads of money because they're chums and feeling really generous. Just saying "it wasn't for politics, it was the opposite, innit!" isn't going to convince any court.
