After flushing the valve frequently fails to let the water in, not all the time but most of the time. Have to manually press the red lever arm for it to fill. Any adjustments needed or other solutions?

If the the inlet valve works all the time by manually flush without lid on. I would be looking firstly at adjusting flush control. Is this lever or button?

The button presses down onto the white circle with the screw in the middle. Not connected by a cord

if you press the white circle/screw, does the toilet flush normally or play up as you described earlier?
Could you upload picture of these items?

That's an armitage shanks flush valve.
When it does it is water trickling into pan.

If it is the full valve probably just scaled up and stuff
