Hi guys,

I have some friends who have just taken over a restaurant and inside there’s a plate warmer.
The plate warmer is currently connected to a 13A FCU which is connected to a 3 pin 13A plug and plugged in to a socket lower down.
The plate warmer is around 2KW so the amperage is ok.

Is this safe?

They do have an electrician coming in to sort things but he can’t get there for a couple of weeks.

The previous owners have said they’ve been using it like that for a couple of years with no issues.

Is it ok for now?

Thanks.

Ignoring any questions about the supply to that socket...If the cable from the FCU to the plug is 3 core flex, at least 1.5mm, properly glanded from the FCU then yes it is OK. Undesirable though (every connection is a potential failure point and there are redundant connections in that setup).
