Hi,

I want to attach a new garden gate betweeen my exterior brick wall and the brick pilllar of my neighbours gate, problem is the pillar bows at the bottom by approx 2cm which is going to cause a problem making everything fit nicely.

Its my first post so excuse me if my search was rubbish but i couldnt find anything, any help and ideas would be appreciated :)

No problem really - just position the post where you want it, check vertical with a level and pack as required.

More to the point is whether you should be attaching anything to your neighbour's property. Unless you have his permission or unless it is a jointly owned pillar he could sue you.

Thanks! This may be a stupid question but im abit of a novice, by pack it i assume you mean with mortar? Would i fix it into position before packing?

Yea its fine with the neighbour, its kind of their fault i need a new one anyway so they will be helping with the cost

Packing it out just means something to fill the gap behind the post if the wall is out of plumb. Otherwise when you put a fixing through the post into the wall the post will bend in to take the shape of the wall as you tighten it which you don't want. So put in some small slices of timber or ready made wedges/ packers close to each fixing if required.
