I need a 3x3 piece of timber in our bathroom which will be used vertically to hold the shower door keep on and be tiled on.

Is there any reason why I can't use a "fence post" e.g. as sold at Wickes? Reason I ask is that it looks like that would be the only way I'd get hold of some new timber of the right thickness this weekend.

Thanks in advance.

Fence posts are usually cut from the lowest grades of timber, to make them easy to pressure-treat with preservative.
You may find that the timber cracks along the grain and shrinks after a short time (particularly in a heated house) and your tiles will come loose.

Thanks Tony even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear! I guess I'll just have to postpone
