Hi, I need to put some fencing in my garden, trouble is my garden goes quite steep so i'm not sure of how to put the fencing posts in. I don't want to use concrete posts because i have no way of supporting it so wanted to use wood. Can post sockets be used? The fence will be about 5 foot high. My soil is clay.

Thanks for any advice

You make then self supporting i.e. you dig a deep hole (post for a 6' fence is 8' tall, so 2' underground) put the post in a fill it with concrete.

Yes, but again, they can't just sit on the ground so you have to provide something (e.g. large concrete block in the ground) to bolt them too. So there is as much effort involved in both methods, take your pick.
