hi guys just moved into a house with a ferroliu f30b installed and have noticed that when the heating is on and you turn the cold tap on the heating goes into standby mode when the cold tap is turned off. Is this right?

Cheers

The description of the fault is somewhat difficult to comprhend but I gather that when the heating is on and you turn a cold tap on the heating goes off and the boiler stays in a standby mode for a minute or two?

If this is the case the most likely suspect is a dead leg in the system somewhere causing the flow switch (or other sensing device) to flick on for a second.

yes mate, when the heating is on ie the pump is pumping hot water around and you turn the cold tap on and then off the heating goes into standby for 2-3 minutes, is this normal, if not is it easily fixed?

does sound like a dead leg in the system somewhere.

One quick fix is to fit a non return valve on the cold water inlet to the combi.

Not quite sure how that would cure anything.

OP, if its all outlets then you may need a pressure reducing valve, or maybe try turning the main stop cock down. If its just one outlet then try restricting the flow to this via the service valve.

Also as harrogate says there could be a dead leg with trapped air which needs purging.

It will solve it no problem??

The Ferroli has a flow turbine and even if spun backwards will operate the boiler. If you put a non return valve on the inlet to the combi (cold water) then the water will remian static when a cold water tap is turned on thus preventing the flow turbine moving at all.

This will keeps the boiler from going into standby mode.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Also with a flow turbine what difference does pressure make???...it only senses movement of water not the amount of pressure.

If the mains is too high then its going to cause water hammer through the pipeowrk and trip the F/switch.

But were talking about a cold tap. Its still flowing the correct way into the boiler.

Exactly what component is causing water hammer........lengths of copper pipe dont.

LOL. No but turning a tap off will especially if you've got 3+bar mains pressure...

hi guys, i have only noticed it on the bathroom and kitchen taps, if this helps, so whats the general consensus, is this damaging the boiler

Thanks
Andy

What is the system pressure as viewed on the boiler with:-

Heating only on ?

Heating and a hot tap on ?

Has the filling loop been left open?

Tony

thanks guys, looked for what agile was talking about, everything looked ok. Got a plumber coming next week to look.

Thanks
