Hi everyone, I'm currently undertaking major works to my home and as part of this I've had to dig up the existing copper cable and ducting that runs from the house to the street chamber (as an extension is being built in it's current position).
I've had an Openreach engineer come and do a survey and he advised me just to move the cable and put it back once done. My concern with this is that it's the crappy old copper cabling that was installed back in the 1960's - as BT are going to be rolling out FTTP in the coming months/years I'd rather install fibre from my home to the street whilst the place is a building site (future proofing).
My question for everyone is perhaps a bit technical but I hope there are others in a similar situtation:
1) Has anyone done this themselves and if so can you please provide details of products/companies used
2) If I were to pay Openreach to reconnect the phone will they replace the cabling "as standard" or are they just going to reconnect the old copper and charge me a fortune for the privilege?
Any help/advice much appreciated!
