FIESTA BOOT NOT OPENING

MY CAR MODEL IS FIESTA GHIA 5 DOOR, THE PUSH BUTTON IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR WILL NOT OPEN THE BOOT, NOR WILL THE KEY WORK IN THE LOCK. I HAVE REMOVED THE BACK PANEL AND CAN NOW OPEN THE BOOT BY MOVING A SMALL POLE, DO YOU KNOW HOW I COULD RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM?

My car is similar. Sounds like a linkage has broken in the boot door. From the key hole to the lock is a solid link (you can feel it when you turn the key). Can you hear the door click when you press the button on the remote or dash?
