fiesta headlights

is anyone familiar with the electrical circuit on the headlights on an n reg fiesta si?
a mates dipped headlights failed which i traced to a burnt out 4 pin relay in the fusebox and replaced,whats bugging me is that when you put the sidelights on the headlamp dipped filament is also glowing dimly,all other lights work ok,is this a feature of the lights because i have not noticed it before, all the earths look ok

I've had two cars like that in the past. They called it "dim dip".

IIRC both the 'L' reg and 'Y' reg Fiestas they gave me at work had 'dim dip' headlights working with sidelights on and ignition on. Turn the ignition off, and just the sidelights illuminate.
