Filler in deep paint chips on window sill

I need to repair some deep paint chips on a wooden window sill and also some other areas, skirting boards and stair spindles, etc. The paint chips are quite deep, probably at least 3 or 4 layers of paint have been removed.

What is the best product to fill in these chips? I have tried a little pollyfilla but it is quite hard to get it to stick, in particular on the curved edges of the window sill.

Sand it all.
Undercoat it all then fill.
Toupret powder filler I would use although you can use a ready mixed..
Use 320 grade sandpaper on some wood.
I stick it on some scraps of wood with PVA so sandpaper is flat.
If you hand sand you will likely sand all the filler off as your hand isn't flat.

Other way is to use 2 pack wood filler.
That's resin mixed with hardener.
Bit more difficult to use and harder to stand.
